For today’s classic song of the day, dial the Wayback Machine to 1971 and a single by two brothers and a sister. The song is “Treat Her Like a Lady” and the group called themselves Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose. Released as a single in April of 1971, this track peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Cash Box Top 100.
“Treat Her Like a Lady” was written by Eddie Cornelius, one of the two Cornelius brothers. The other brother was named Carter and their sister was Rose. Hence the group name.
The two Cornelius Brothers first started singing together professionally in the mid-1960s and sister Rose joined them in 1970. Two years later, they added another sister, Billie Jo, to the group.
“Treat Her Like a Lady” was the first big hit for the family band, in 1971, followed in 1972 with “Too Late to Turn Back Now.” While they continued to release more records over the next few years, these were their only two big hits. They broke up as a musical group (but not as a family) in 1976.
