Today’s classic song of the day is a little-remembered soul number by a female vocal group called the Fuzz. The song is “I Love You for All Seasons” and it was released as a single in December of 1970. It peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #10 on Billboard’s R&B chart early the next year.
The Fuzz were a group of three female singers (Sheila Young, Val Williams, and Barbara Gilliam) from Washington, D.C. They first got together in 1970 as the Passionettes but changed their name when they signed to Calla Records. They released one album (1971’s The Fuzz) and three singles, of which only “I Love You for All Seasons” hit the mainstream charts. They broke up in 1972.
“I Love You for All Seasons” was written by group member Sheila Young, who wrote most of the group’s songs. It’s a smooth soul ballad that was right at home with the Philly Soul-influenced tracks on the radio at the time.
And here’s today’s daily bonus track of the day, one of the Fuzz’s other, less successful singles, “Like an Open Door.” This was pretty good stuff, they probably suffered from being on a smaller label without a lot of promotional muscle.
