I’m a huge Dusty Springfield fan. I think she was one of the top two or three female singers of the 1960s, which she proved by having a string of big hits. Today’s classic song of the day was one such hit, at least in the UK; it was never released as a single in the U.S.
The song in question is “Little By Little.” It’s a big, brassy soul-tinged tune, written by Bea Verdi, Buddy Kaye, and Eddie Gin. Johnny Franz was the producer; backing vocals were provided by Madeline Bell and Doris Troy.
“Little By Little” was released as a single in the UK in January of 1966—but not in the U.S. It went all the way to #17 on the UK charts.
