Today’s classic song of the day is “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long” by the Young Rascals. Released as a single in January of 1967, this one went to #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #17 on the Cash Box Top 100.
“I’ve Been Lonely Too Long” was written by Rascals Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati. They said they were inspired by the groove on the Temptations’ track, “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg.” It’s one of the group’s best, a prime example of the Rascals’ blue-eyed soul sound.
And here’s today’s daily bonus video of the day, the Rascals (still Young) performing “I’ve Been Lonely Too Long” on the February 12, 1967, episode of The Ed Sullivan Show. Terrific drumming, as usual, by the great Dino Danelli. They were really cooking on this one.
