Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde started singing together in 1962 and hit it big by riding the wave of the Beatles’ British Invasion. Their first big hit, “Yesterday’s Gone,” is today’s classic song of the day.
Released in September of 1963 in the UK (and March of 1964 in the U.S.), “Yesterday’s Gone” had a decent run on the charts in both countries. The single peaked at #21 on the Billboard Hot 100, #28 on the Cash Box Top 100, and #37 on the UK Singles chart.
“Yesterday’s Gone” was written by Chad Stuart and Wendy Kidd, who was the manager of a band Mr. Stuart was in when he wrote the song back in 1962, before he hooked up with Mr. Clyde. Chad & Jeremy recorded it in a July 1963 session at Abbey Road Studios, produced by John Barry, the guy who wrote the James Bond theme.
